MADISON TOWNSHIP

Situated in the southeast corner of Franklin County, Madison Township was founded at the confluence of three creeks, Blacklick, Big Walnut, and Alum Creek. The Township was established as a part of the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 but it took until 1810 for the population to grow to 500 which was required to become a Township in Ohio. Now, Madison Township has approximately 3,988 households and is one of only three “large townships” in Franklin County.

Three Township Trustees and the Township Fiscal Officer are elected to serve the interests of the community and work to provide the services required by Ohio law.

Madison Township provides Fire Prevention, Protection, and Emergency Medical Services to all of the unincorporated areas of the Township as well as to the Cities of Groveport, Canal Winchester, Pickerington, and Villages of Obetz, Lithopolis.

The Madison Township Police Department is committed to serving and protecting the unincorporated areas of the Township. Patrol officers and community policing officers can be found in all parts of the community on a daily basis.

The Madison Township Public Works Department provides road maintenance and repair to the township roads and public stormwater systems. These dedicated men are the ones found plowing snow in the winter and paving streets in the summer.
